The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Governor revealed today, June 24th, that the Phuket Sandbox has already been scheduled to welcome more than 1,500 foreign tourists on its first day. Special tourist promotions are also planned to attract vaccinated domestic Thai tourists.
Governor Yuthasak Supasorn stated more than 1,500 people would arrive on the first flights to the island on July 1st and would gradually increase until the end of the third quarter.
It is expected that a target goal of 100,000 foreign tourists would visit the island generating significant tourism dollars for the economy by the end of the third quarter.
Moreover, TAT has planned to invite the media and international agencies to observe the island reopening after almost two years of closure due to the Covid-19 outbreak. About 200 of them are expected to gradually arrive in July.
TAT is going to organize a special promotion for Thai vaccinated people to travel to the island, under the cooperation of various tourism agencies. It is also working with the Council and the Chamber of Commerce of Thailand to launch the “Hug Thai, Chai Thai, Hug Travel” tourism project for the first time in Phuket. “Regarding the number of daily injections, it is still at a single number (in Phuket) so we ask everyone to trust in the government’s management and control of the infections. Please be assured that there are strict control measures to ensure the safety of SHA Plus establishments and accommodations. Therefore, all SHA Plus Managers must act strictly to maintain the safety of tourists, people in Phuket, and people living in other areas of Thailand,” Yuthasak concluded.

Not everyone is happy, however, as Phuket entertainment venue owners continue to protest about not being granted permission by the Thai government to open their business.
