Number Of Covid-19 Cases Unchanged At 33, Says Health Ministry

15 Feb, 2020

The Ministry of Public Health briefed the press today (February 14) on the latest data of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) infection in Thailand.

“A female Chinese tourist infected with the virus was discharged today as she had fully recovered,” said permanent secretary Dr Sukhum Kanjanapimai. “Accumulated cases of Covid-19 remain unchanged at 33, with 20 tested positive for infection, while 13 have fully recovered and discharged”.

Among those hospitalised, two suffer from ARDS [Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome] and have been treated with ECMO [Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation]. Both are in stable conditions, he added.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Health Anutin Charnvirakul said the Thais brought back from Wuhan and placed in quarantine were in good health and spirit. “The quarantine period will end in five days, and I will personally pay them a visit before they return home,” he said.

When asked about the Seabourn Ovation cruise ship that docked in Phuket yesterday, Anutin said passengers on board were scheduled to disembark in Thailand on the same day, unlike the Westerdam cruise ship which the government denied docking.

“The ship operator had sent us the docking schedule, list of passengers along with their physical exam results before it entered Thai waters,” he said.

“Most importantly, the ministry’s Department of Disease Control dispatched medical staff to screen all passengers before allowing them to disembark in Phuket”.
