No Chinese New Year Celebration In Yaowarat

04 Feb, 2021

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has cancelled Chinese New Year celebrations in Yaowarat, the city's Chinatown, this month, citing Covid-19 worries.

Bangkok governor Aswin Kwanmuang announced the decision on Thursday.

Normally, the Samphanthawong district office, business and civic leaders in Yaowarat organise a big annual Chinese New Year celebration.

The festival this year would have centred around Feb 12.

However, the latest Covid-19 wave was unlikely to have subsided by then, the governor said.

Since the second Covid-19 wave started in mid-December, Bangkok has logged 802  cases, or 4.70% of community infection cases nationwide.
