Local Virus Cases Stable At 33

12 Feb, 2020

The number of local novel coronavirus patients remained at 33 on Wednesday. Eleven of them had fully recovered and been discharged and 22 were still in hospitals, the Disease Control Department reported.

Dr Suwannachai Wattanayingcharoenchai, director-general of the department, said three of the  patients still in hospital had already tested negative for the virus and might be discharged soon.

One of the three was a returnee from Wuhan city, China, and was in Chon Buri Hospital in Chon Buri province. Another was at the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute and the third at Rajvithi Hospital in Bangkok, he said.

On Wednesday one patient was discharged from hospital. He was a Chinese man who had been treated at the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute in Nonthaburi province since Jan 25. He was free of the novel coronavirus, Dr Suwannachai said.

A critically ill patient was in stable condition, unchanged from when examined upon arrival at hospital. Doctors were closely monitoring the patient, Dr Suwannachai said.

Of the 138 quarantined returnees from Wuhan, 136 of them were accommodated in resort houses at Sattahip naval base in Chon Buri, and the two others remained at hospitals.

From Jan 3 to Feb 11, patients being monitored for infection numbered 799. Of these, 51 were detected at airports and the rest went to hospitals themselves.

He said 587 were discharged from hospitals and were being monitored. Most of them suffered from seasonal fevers. The other 212 people were being treated at hospitals.
