It’s that time of the year again to unwind and close off the year on the high note. While waiting for international travel to resume, exploring Thailand’s nature isn’t such a bad idea. And if you, like us, are keen to escape the hustle and bustle of city life — and the dreaded year-end city smog; we’ve got a few suggestions for a perfect tropical getaway. 

Koh Tao is an island just a 1.5-hour ferry ride from Koh Samui, and it’s known for its vibrant atmosphere and for its reputation as one of the world’s best diving spots. According to the diving instructors of Koh Tao, underwater flora have been thriving due to the lack of interference. Wildlife have also returned, with turtles and sharks returning to the clear waters to mate.

Here, there are several dive sites suitable for divers of any level, and whether you’re snorkelling or diving, you’ll be greeted with spectacular coral reefs. Visitors can enter the island through Mae Hat Pier, the hub of the island, that houses everything from shops and restaurants to accommodation and public transport.

 

 

 

Just 10 minutes away from Koh Tao is Koh Nang Yuan. Here, travelers can take in pristine strips of beaches connected to a cluster of islands. It’s a sight for sore eyes, with stunning scenery viewable from many best viewed from the different hilltop vantage points. To keep beaches pristine, all plastic items have been banned from the island, with visitors having to leave any trash on the ferry. There’s no lack of things to do either, with activities such as kayaking. If you choose to stay the night, you’ll want to keep an eye out for schools of sharks that may appear along the crystal-clear waters of the beach.
