Airports of Thailand Plc (AOT) revealed that its passenger number had decreased by 48.8 per cent year-on-year to 72.6 million in the 2020 fiscal year starting from October 1, 2019 to September 30, 2020.
AOT operates six affiliated airports which are Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai, Phuket, and Mae Fah Luang-Chiang Rai Airports. All of them have been affected by the halt in air travel due to the spread of COVID-19.
The recent passenger number can be divided into 37.4 million of international passengers (down 55.4 per cent year-on-year) and 35.1 million of domestic passengers (down 39.2 per cent year-on-year).
According to the report, there were a total of 515,185 flights, a 42.5 per cent drop year-on-year. International flights made up less than half of that number with 244,511 flights while there were 270,674 domestic flights.
Suvarnabhumi Airport recorded the biggest passenger number at 30.7 million, decreased by 52.4 per cent year-on-year, followed by Don Mueang Airport with 22.2 million passengers, decreased by 45.7 per cent.
AOT’s shares traded at 53.75 baht per share on Tuesday’s afternoon break at 13.05 p.m., equal to its prior price, with a transaction value of 871.14 million baht.
Second group of tourists
Last Tuesday, a group of 41 Chinese tourists from Shanghai arrived at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand under the Special Tourist Visa (STV) granted to boost the tourism businesses.
As of Tuesday, the second group of 145 Chinese tourists from Guangzhou has also arrived in Thailand via China Southern Airlines CZ3081 along with 118 foreign businessmen and another 16 Thai returnees.
The airport authorities said that they would still strictly follow the coronavirus screening test and insisted that all incoming passengers must go through the Alternative State quarantine (ASQ) measures for 14 days.
