Twenty-nine newborn leatherback sea turtles were released into Andaman Sea off Phuket on Friday night amid supervision by officials and watched by numerous locals.

The 29 turtles were found to be healthy enough to be released into the sea, while five newborns were placed in the care of officials.

The mother turtle had laid the eggs on Kata Beach among locals and tourists on the last day of 2020.
