273 Covid Fatalities, 18,702 Cases

There were another 273 Covid-19 fatalities and 18,702 new cases recorded over the past 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Friday morning.

There were 18,360 cases in the general population and 342 among prison inmates.

This compares with 229 Covid-related deaths and 18,501 cases reported by officials on Thursday.

Over the past 24 hours, 20,163 Covid-19 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.

 

Since April 1, around when the third wave of Covid-19 began, there have been 1,110,708 Covid-19 patients, 916,358 of whom have recovered.

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,139,571 Covid-19 cases, 943,784 of whom recovered.

The death toll was at 10,493 in the third wave and 10,587 from the beginning of the pandemic early last year.

Apisamai Srirangson, assistant spokesperson for the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration, said in the afternoon briefing that the 273 new fatalities were 19-101 years old and included five Myanmar. Three deaths were pregnant women in Pattani (2) and Pathum Thani (1). One died at home in Saraburi.

Bangkok logged 85 new fatalities while its adjacent provinces recorded 76 new deaths – in Pathum Thani (24), Samut Sakhon (15), Samut Prakan (16), Nakhon Pathom (18), and Nonthaburi (3).

The South had 18 new fatalities including eight in Pattani, two in Ranong, and one in Chumphon.

The Northeast reported 21 new deaths including five in Surin, two in Si Sa Ket, and one in Loei.

The North had 16 new deaths including five in Nakhon Sawan, two in Phetchabun, and one in Phichit.

Central plains provinces recorded 57 new fatalities including 15 in Saraburi, 14 in Chon Buri, six in Ratchaburi, five in Nakhon Nayok, four in Chachoengsao, three in Kanchanaburi, two in Ayutthaya, and one in Ang Thong.

The 18,702 new cases over the past 24 hours included 18,351 local infections and nine imported cases.

Of the local cases, 16,677 were confirmed at hospitals and 1,674 via mass testing.

Bangkok had the most new cases at 4,699, followed by 1,220 in Samut Prakan, 1,064 in Chon Buri, 894 in Samut Sakhon, 586 in Nonthaburi, 525 in Pathum Thani, 497 in Nakhon Ratchasima, 485 in Ratchaburi, 475 in Rayong, and 465 in Ayutthaya.

The nine imported cases were from Israel (1), Cambodia (4 including 3 illegal returnees), Myanmar (1), and Malaysia (3).

On Thursday, 185,200 patients received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals. Of them, 5,154 were seriously ill and 1,082 were dependent on ventilators.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 712,031 in 24 hours to 215.48 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 10,755 to 4.49 million.

The United States had the most cases at 39.34 million, up 169,953, and the most cases at 651,956, up 1,215.
