There were 16,031 new Covid-19 cases and 220 more fatalities recorded during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry reported on Thursday morning.

There were 15,400 cases in the general population and 631 among prison inmates.

On Wednesday, 15,417 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,309,687 Covid-19 patients, 1,154,355 of whom have recovered to date.

 

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,338,550 Covid-19 cases, with 1,181,781 complete recoveries so far.

The death toll stood at 13,637 during the third wave and 13,731 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The kingdom's 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 18. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 13.

The 220 fatalities (down from 228 the previous day) were aged between19 and 102 years. Four were from Myanmar and one was American.

One was a pregnant woman in Chon Buri province. Two died at their homes, in Chon Buri and Rayong. The Rayong fatality tested positive for Covid-19 after death.

Bangkok continued to log the most daily deaths – 43 (down from 50 the previous day) -- while a further 67 (up from 60) were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (32), Samut Sakhon (17), Pathum Thani (8), Nakhon Pathom (6) and Nonthaburi (4).

Other central plain provinces further from the capital recorded 69 more deaths (down from 76) – in Suphan Buri (14), Chon Buri (14), Samut Songkhram (12), Ayutthaya (9), Saraburi (4), Lop Buri (4), Rayong (4), Ang Thong (2), Nakhon Nayok (1), Kanchanaburi (1), Phetchaburi (1), Ratchaburi (1), Chachoengsao (1) and Chanthaburi (1).

The Northeast had 10 new fatalities (up from 9) – in Nakhon Ratchasima (5), Ubon Ratchathani (2), Nakhon Phanom (1), Loei (1) and Si Sa Ket (1).

The South reported 19 more deaths (unchanged) – in Pattani (5), Narathiwat (4), Songkhla (4), Ranong (3), Chumphon (1), Yala (1) and Satun (1).

The North saw 12 new fatalities (down from 14) – in Tak (5), Kamphaeng Phet (3), Phichit (2), Phitsanulok (1) and Uttaradit (1).

The 16,031 new cases (up from 14,176 the previous day) included 15,391 local infections and nine imported cases. Of the local infections, 12,436 were confirmed at hospitals and 2,955 via mass testing.

Bangkok had 3,736 new cases (up from 3,691), followed by 1,594 in Chon Buri (up from 846), 1,197 in Samut Prakan (up from 995), 643 in Samut Sakhon (up from 641), 549 in Rayong (up from 473), 466 in Ratchaburi (down from 528), 455 in Narathiwat (up from 332), 433 in Nonthaburi (up from 362), 374 in Songkhla (up from 369) and 362 in Saraburi (up from 145).

Greater Bangkok reported 6,318 new cases (up from 5,946) and 110 new deaths (unchanged). Four southern border provinces had 1,352 new cases (up from 1,095) and 14 new fatalities (up from 10), while 67 other provinces recorded 7,721 new cases (up from 6,613) and 96 new deaths (down from 107).

The nine imported cases were from the United States (1), Cambodia (2), Malaysia (1 illegal returnee) and Myanmar (5 including 2 illegal Chinese immigrants).

On Wednesday 143,038 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals (up from 142,644 on the previous day), including 4,363 seriously ill patients suffering lung inflammation (down from 4,387) and 940 dependent on ventilators (down from 960).

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 598,952 in 24 hours (up from 519,386) to 223.38 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 9,754 (up from 8,448) to 4.61 million.

The United States had the most cases at 41.39 million, up 157,759 (up from 107,060), and the most deaths at 671,183, up 1,700 (from 815).
