15,191 New Covid Cases, 253 More Deaths

Thailand logged 15,191 Covid-19 cases and 253 fatalities on Friday, according to the Public Health Ministry.

Of the new cases, 14,465 cases were in the general population and 726 were prisoners.

On Friday, 18,721 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus disease.

Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,339,281 Covid-19 patients, 1,188,686 of whom have recovered.

 

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1.37 million Covid-19 cases, 1.22 million of whom have recovered.

The death toll stood at 14,079 in the third wave and 14,173 since the beginning of the pandemic in December 2020.

The number of single-day fatalities peaked at 312 on Aug 18 while the most cases in a single day was seen on Aug 13, at 23,418.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported on Saturday afternoon that the 253 new fatalities were aged 18-98, averaging 69. They included 249 Thais, one Myanmar and one Cambodian. No details given on the remaining two fatalities.

One of the deaths was a pregnant woman with underlying conditions in Samut Prakan.

Bangkok continued to log the most deaths at 111, or 43.8%. Another 38 fatalities were reported in the adjacent provinces of Samut Prakan (12), Nakhon Pathom (12), Pathum Thani (8) and Samut Sakhon (6). 

The Northeast had 13 new fatalities in Roi Et (2), Kalasin (2), Chaiyaphum (2), Maha Sarakham (1), Khon Kaen (1), Udon Thani (1), Nakhon Ratchasima (1), Buri Ram (1), Yasothon (1) and Ubon Ratchathani (1). 

The North saw six new deaths in Tak (4), Phichit (1) and Phitsanulok (1).

The South reported 18 more deaths in Ranong (6), Phuket (4), Surat Thani (2), Songkhla (2), Narathiwat (1), Yala (1), Pattani (1) and Chumphon (1).

Sixteen other provinces saw 67 new fatalities. They were Ayutthaya (9), Chon Buri (8), Samut Songkhram (7), Nakhon Nayok (6), Ratchaburi (5), Prachin Buri (5), Lop Buri (4), Chachoengsao (4), Suphan Buri (4), Trat (4), Rayong (3), Kanchanaburi (2), Phetchaburi (2), Saraburi (2), Sa Kaeo (1) and Ang Thong (1). 

Of the 15,191 new cases, 14,459 were local infections and six were imported.

Of the local infections, 12,647 were confirmed at hospitals and 1,812 during mass testing.

Bangkok had 3,364 new cases, followed by 1,308 in Samut Prakan, 991 in Chon Buri, 643 in Samut Sakhon, 629 in Ratchaburi, 473 in Songkhla, 441 in Rayong, 372 in Prachin Buri, 369 in Narathiwat and 309 in Yala.

The six imported cases were Thai returnees from South Korea (1), the United States (1) and Cambodia (4). 

On Friday, 137,859 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals, including 4,168 seriously ill patients with 875 dependent on ventilators.

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 595,081 to 224.64 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 9,080 to 4.63 million. The US had the most cases at 41.74 million, up 171,125. Thailand ranked 29 th globally with 1,368,144 accumulated cases.
