14,029 New Covid Cases, 180 More Deaths

Thailand logged 14,029 new Covid-19 cases and 180 more fatalities during the previous 24 hours, the Public Health Ministry announced on Sunday morning.

There were 13,753 cases in the general population and 276 among prison inmates.

On Saturday, 15,742 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals after recovering from the coronavirus.

 

 

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said in the afternoon briefing that the 180 new fatalities were between the ages of five months and 108 years old, and included four Myanmar nationals and one Chinese.

 

The baby died in Yala, where a pregnant woman also fell victim to Covid, the Centre said.

 

Bangkok continued to log the most new deaths -- 67 -- while a further 31 were reported in adjacent provinces.

 

 

Bangkok recorded 3,356 new cases, followed by 848 in Chon Buri, 832 in Samut Prakan, 524 in Rayong and 516 in Ratchaburi, according to the CCSA.

 

Jomthong district led Bangkok with 186 new cases, followed by 156 in Huai Kwang, 119 in Bangkok Noi and 100 in Nong Chok.

 

The country imported four cases -- two from Malaysia and one each from Myanmar and the Netherlands. 

 

On Saturday 135,966 people received Covid-19 treatment at hospitals, field hospitals and isolation centres, including 4,013  seriously ill patients and 856 dependent on ventilators.

 

Since April 1, when the third wave of Covid-19 began, Thailand has treated 1,353,310 Covid-19 patients, 1,204,428 of whom have recovered to date.

 

Since the pandemic started early last year, there have been 1,382,173 Covid-19 cases, with 1,232,073 complete recoveries so far.

 

The death toll stood at 14,259 during the third wave and 14,353 since the beginning of the pandemic.

 

The kingdom’s all-time 24-hour high of Covid-19 fatalities was 312 recorded on Aug 18. The highest number of cases was 23,418 on Aug 13.

 

Global Covid-19 cases rose by 451,451 in 24 hours to 225 million. The worldwide death toll went up by 7,709 to 476 million. The United States had the most cases at 41 million, up 72,203, and the most deaths at 677,737, up 719.
