HEALTH MINISTRY WANTS TO CUT QUARANTINE PERIOD

The Public Health Ministry has proposed that the mandatory quarantine period for tourists be reduced from 14 to 10 days and will soon ask the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) to alter the requirement accordingly.

Permanent secretary for Public Health Kiattiphum Wongrajit said on Wednesday he was confident that a second wave of Covid-19 in Thailand would not be as bad as the first, thanks to the country's comprehensive preventative measures, particularly related to the wearing of face masks in public.

KHAO SAN SET TO REOPEN FOR LOCALS, EXPATS

Khao San Road will reopen to trade at the end of next month with more vendors and promotional events lined up to pull in local crowds.

The small street, popular with foreign tourists, has experienced one of its biggest slumps since the Covid-19 pandemic forced border closures. With tourist arrivals down to zero, City Hall has decided it will spur business along the street by drawing in Thais and expats, according to Mr Sakoltee.

The deputy governor chaired a meeting on Wednesday on preparations to reopen street-side trade along the road starting either on Oct 30 or 31.
